MOVEMENT
In this series, the primary motif is movement. A primary element, such as a group of runners. will appear in different paintings such that the images becomes “iconic,” in common parlance, through repetition. Many figures are sampled from Edward Muybridge’s nineteenth-century motion studies. Recently I have started photographing runners in the parks and use these as the jumping-off point for a finished work. Without high quality reproductions the halftones and a degraded image quality become another element, another step in the manipulation. In addition to sampled work I subject my photographs and graphical drawings to this manipulation. Large prints on archival paper pop with the color and figures of these images.
